“ When Bredon Hill puts on its hat, Yes men of the Vale beware of that. “
This is an old saying from my home in the Vale of Evesham. It's a weather warning that if Bredon Hill, a very visible landmark, is covered in cloud then rain is likely. I can see Bredon Hill from my workshop and have spent many hours walking its slopes.
Asparagus decoration, a crop that most farmers and market gardeners grew in this area until big scale agriculture took over recently. Vale Gras has a distinct flavour from being grown in the thick Lias clays around here.
Amber glaze finish with traditional sgraffitto decoration. A process where two opposing clay colours are used and the design drawn through and scratched away. This often takes hours to finish just one pot.
My fascination with historical pottery often leads me down the path of this style of mostly North Devon origin.
